Nightflying
Notes from the Pub, Central Arkansas (excerpt)
October 2007
..........Practically next door to Juanita's is, of course, MidTown Billiards...Little Rock's colorful answer to the smoky music bars in The Crescent City )that's New Orleans for some of you...)
MidTown doesn't really get going on most days until around midnight, and this is where the bar and club people tend to congretate when their own places close (and it goes until 5 a.m. 7 nights a week.)
I got to spend an evening there recently with Sugarfree Allstars, a kickass duo that features Chris Wiser on Hammond organ and Rob "Dr. Rock" Martin on drums...both sing...
Like our own Trout Fishing in America, these two together make more music than many full-blown bands, and they possess a musical spirit that engulfs whatever room they're performing in, and delights audiences from the very young to seasoned 'grown-ups' like the crowd that hangs at MidTown until 5 o'clock in the morning and that's putting it mildly.....
(Both also have an uncanny interest in Applied Physics, too, but that's another story for another time....)
We'll have a full-blown feature on the band in the near future so watch for it...........
